Abstract

This descriptive study was designed to provide basic data for planning the strategies of safety education for children. The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics and results of accidents and post accidental management of school aged.
Twenty five elementary schools were selected by convenient sampling at 25-Gu in Seoul for data collection. Total of 2,635 questionnaires were collected from students and analyzed by researchers.

The results are as follows ;
1. Characteristics of accidents
1) Accidents more often took place at outside of their house than at school or home.
2) In the cases of accidents at school, they occurred more frequently at playground than classroom, and they took place at gymnasium class and break time.
3) Boys were significantly higher incidence of accidents than girls.
4) Home accidents were the most frequently occurred inside of the room or at kitchen.
5) The most frequent time of accidents were in summer and after school time
during a day that was pm 1- 5.
6) School children experienced various accidents such as accident caused by toys or doing mischief, and sports.

2. Results of accidents and post accidental management
1) Results of accidents were various injuries
on four extemities such as leg, foot, arm, and hand.
2) The most common types of injuries were abrasions, lacerations, bruise and bleeding.
3) The most common management for accidents was visiting physicians for treatment or admission
